Fourth Annual Bruno Gulch Campout and Fun Ride
Preliminary - subject to change
July 11th 10:00 am Learn how to camp with your horse. Bruno Gulch Campground is a first come first serve dispersed campground with limited camping sites. There is no potable water source and no toilets. There is a creek to get water for the horses. At the trail head there are four permanent horse pens. There is no guarantee of getting a horse pen, so plan accordingly.
July 12th 9:00 am tack up / 10:00 am Ride - Bruno Gulch Campground, Grant, CO. Free to RMBCH members or $5 for first ride non-members
We will start the morning off at 10:00 am with breakfast burritos, fruit, orange juice, coffee, and tea, provided by RMBCH. We will cover highline, electric fence, and tilt-tie as methods of horse containment. You will learn what to take for water, supplements, feed, buckets, and first aid. We will cover saddle bags and what are recommended items to take into the outback for long work or fun day rides. You will also learn about different tools used on a work ride, how to use them safely, and how to store them on the trail and on your horse.
Bring your own lunch and drinks.
In the afternoon, an experienced rider will take you out on a trail exploration ride. When you get back to camp you will learn how to report what you found on the trail, what type of work there is to be done, and how to log your volunteer hours.
We will have a pot luck on Saturday evening, so everyone bring your favorite camping food to share with the group.
July 13 - Iron Fens Fun ride. Meet at the trailhead at 9:00 am, safety talk at 9:45 am, and feet in the stirrups and ready to ride at 10:00 am.
Description: Bruno Gulch Camping & Fun Ride. Have you been itching to explore some of the horseback riding in Pike National Forest? Come spend the day riding in the shadows of thirteeners along Geneva Creek. Explore with seasoned riders an area that is one of the South Platte District's best kept secrets! This excursion is on a very high elevation trail, so please be certain you and your equine can handle the challenges that come with altitudes of 9,600-12,000ft. There will be water crossings, technical and/or very rocky sections, possible downed trees/obstacles, as well as ATVs/side-by-sides/Jeeps on different segments (parts of this trail are 4x4 two-track roads). We expect to see different wildlife, spectacular photo ops, and likely a fair amount bikers and tourists. Please ensure you arrive on time for the trail ride, considering any potential travel delays, as the ride will start promptly at 10:00 am.
We will ride 12 miles (5-6 hours). This is an up and back ride, so bring your own drinks, lunch, and equine. You will also need to bring a method of tying your equine friend using either a lead rope or better yet, cross ties. We take breaks as needed for horse or rider, and will have lunch at the terminus of the trail. We cannot stress enough if you have health conditions that are made worse by high elevation, or your horse has only been ridden a couple days this year, please do not risk your health and safety for this particular ride. As far as camping is concerned, we welcome participants to experience camping the night before the ride if they have the essentials for their horses: food, water, and containment. There will not be a designated camp host, so plan accordingly to be self-contained as there are no facilities or hookups.
No Dogs or Stallions on RMBCH Rides
